Effective January 1, 2011 the CAP Repair Assistance option will only be available to income eligible consumers. Consumers will no longer be eligible based soley on owning a directed vehicle.
What is the Consumer Assistance Program?
The purpose of the Consumer Assistance Program (CAP) is to improve California air quality by providing assistance to vehicle owners. CAP is administered by the Bureau of AUtomotive Repair (BAR) and offers repair assistance and vehicle retirement to eligible consumers.
Can I receive financial assistance to repair my vehicle through CAP?
If your vehicle fails its biennial (every-other-year) Smog Check, you can receive up to $500 towards emissions-related repairs to help your vehicles pass its Smog Check inspection. If approved you must take your behicle to a Gold Shield Smog Check station for repairs. To quality for repair assistance, a consumer must be:
- Income Eligible – Qualified consumers whose household incomes meet income guidelines can receive $500 toward emissions-related repairs. A copayment of $20 is required and will be applied toward diagnosis and emission-related repairs. The CAP application includes all eligibility requirements.
